What’s the Job?
Reporting to the VP of Strategy, the Business Development Manager at RaceRocks will play a crucial role in collaborating with the sales and marketing team. They’ll be responsible for identifying and cultivating new business opportunities within the defence, aerospace and marine sectors. They will be an important member of the Business Development team that will be attending industry conferences and business development events. Success in this role will require a combination of business acumen, understanding of defence technologies, and adept relationship skills to help the team secure and expand our work in the defence sector.

Responsibilities:

  • Conducting market research to assess potential clients, analyzing industry trends, and staying abreast of geopolitical developments that may impact defence procurement.
  • Support and document the sales process using a CRM.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams on the development of proposals and competitive bids, and new contracts.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, such as government agencies, military officials, and industry partners. 
  • Achieving revenue targets as set out by the VP of Strategy.

Qualifications 

  • 5-7 years experience in business development is strongly preferred with a background in the technology, defence, marine or aerospace industries
  • Experience as a part of a team developing and executing strategic business development.
  • Knowledge of the Canadian defence industry and prime contractors is highly advantageous.
  • Experience working with government and Indigenous relations is an asset
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Public Relations or a related field is an asset

Skills

  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage and influence various stakeholders.
  • Proficient in using CRM software (such as HubSpot) for sales pipeline management and reporting.
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to see the big picture while also focusing on detailed execution.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Deep understanding of defence technologies.
  • Strong ability to build relationships, specifically within the defence sector, to continually grow out footprint.
  • Culturally sensitive and adept at working with diverse groups, including Indigenous communities.

RaceRocks is a remote-first company with team members across Canada, with an office for optional use in Victoria. Team members are required to be available for team building and collaboration during core operating hours of 9:00 am to 2:00 pm Pacific Time. Outside of core working hours, we offer flexibility to support work-life balance. Although our HQ is in Victoria, BC we are open to hiring candidates from nearly anywhere in Canada. At this time, we do not have the infrastructure to support hiring candidates from Quebec or to hire/support working internationally.
